Soldier's Home

Soldier’s Home by Ernest Hemingway is about a soldier named Harold Krebs who comes home to a place he felt he no longer belonged in, and rather than accepting him for his new self after the war, everyone wanted him the way he was before. They expected the same person to return, because after all, they were the same people as when he left. He returns many years after the First World War, and struggles with re-integrating himself into a post-war society. I've been wondering if Hemingway wrote this short story using Krebs’ life as a replica of his own.
